Community safety
Community Safety District
Community safety is all about the issues that make people safe, or unsafe, in their communities.
Achieving safer communities depends on everyone working together to find local solutions to local problems.
Everyone has the right to feel and be safe – to make sure this is possible, this responsibility is shared between:
- the community
- the public sector (such as the Council and the police)
- the private sector (such as local businesses)
- the faith sector (such as the local church)
- voluntary organisations.

Child Safety Week 3-9th June 2024
Child Safety Week is the Child Accident Prevention Trust’s annual community education campaign, acting as a catalyst for thousands of safety conversations and activities UK-wide.
We help families build confidence and skills in managing the real risks to children’s safety.
We want all children to have the freedom to grow and learn, safe from serious harm.

If you or someone you know is a victim of domestic abuse
About Us
Each local council is required by law to work together in partnership with the police constabulary, office of the police and crime commissioner, the fire and rescue service and the probation service.
These partnerships are called Community Safety Partnerships (CSPs) and are responsible for working together to reduce crime and disorder, anti-social behaviour and re-offending.
The CSP’s priorities
The CSP will focus on the following five priorities over the next three years:
- Maintaining Low Crime and Anti-Social Behaviour
- Targeting repeat offenders and those causing the greatest harm
- Road Safety
- Tackling serious and organised crime
- Serious Violence
- Domestic Abuse
Every year, Pennine Lancashire prioritises and addresses the issues that really matter in our borough. Our aim is always to work to tackle issues that have an adverse impact and to identify solutions to improve quality of life for all our residents.
We aim to work with partners to manage both high risk and repeat offenders by using our intensive powers, using advanced technology alongside appropriate support programmes to break the cycle of offending and provide a rapid response in cases where the risk of offending escalates.
